Chapter Ten

Rashaad

“Pack the kids up, and I will send an Uber to get y’all when you’re ready,” I instructed Charlotte.

I was just pulling up to my apartment complex after getting my children from my parents' crib as she gave me a heads up about her baby father coming in contact with her son. That shit not only had me livid because this nigga ain’t give a fuck about my warning, it had me ready to fully take matters into my own hands by following up with my promise.

“Where are your children?” Charlotte quizzed.

“With me. We’re just getting home.”

“You’re okay with them meeting me this soon?”

“Are you okay with meeting them? Time doesn’t matter, I trust you, and you're trying to keep Lil’ Ant busy, so he won’t drive you crazy. You might as well come over here. We could use some company.”

When I unlocked the car door, RJ got out and helped Ria out of her booster seat while I tended to Ramir.

“What about their mother?”

“I tried reaching out to her and her mother. No response so far.”

“Do you think she would be happy about me meeting the children?

I sighed heavily, getting tired of all the stalling Charlotte was doing. I was glad she cared and had understanding, but she was being too damn nice when it came to a woman that didn’t give a fuck about her own children. She’s been gone for a few weeks without communication, so her opinion on anything didn’t matter.

“Cut it out, Char. There’s nothing she can say or do that's going to stop me from living my life unless you want to slow things down.”

“Rashaad—”

“Let me worry about Shaleena,” I cut her off before she got emotional on me.

I was a little hard on her because I didn’t need her second-guessing my decision I made that involved her. The shit was frustrating when I was trying to move forward, and she wanted to stay in the same spot waiting for someone else to make the next move that could land her somewhere she didn’t want to be.

“Right now, Shaleena isn’t a factor because she chooses not to be one. I haven't heard shit from her even after all the attempts I made to reach out. My main focus is you and the children. That shit ya baby father pulled was foul. He knew exactly what he was doing by going up to the school and then leaving Lil’ Ant hanging… nah, I’m handling him.”

Charlotte was silent. I had to pull the phone away to make sure she was still there. I didn't want to come off too aggressive towards her, but she had to understand her safety was my priority. She wasn’t helping me by working against me.

“Okay, I will let you know when we’re ready.”

“Alright. I love you, babe,” I assured her before we hung up. I was pissed, but it didn't change my feelings towards her.

Cooking dinner wasn’t an option, so I ordered pizza, cheesesteaks, and cheese fries to be delivered while I got the kids washed and in their pajamas before Charlotte and her kids came.
